Cuts and loss of sponsor threatens Floral Guernsey
Wednesday 27th July 2011, 1:00PM BST.

Floral Guernsey chairman Tony Spruce said the group was running short of money after its main sponsor pulled out and the States has cut funding.
FLORAL Guernsey may have to cut part of its programme after its main sponsor pulled out and the States announced funding cuts.
Skipton International has supported the volunteer-run initiative for the last 16 years, but will pull out next spring.
Floral Guernsey chairman Tony Spruce said he was grateful for the company’s support, but they were now running short of money. Ideally the group needs a new main sponsor or several smaller sponsors to help support the organisation’s three annual festival weeks and the parish community competition.
The news could not come at a worse time, with Floral Guernsey’s States funding also being cut. In the past the group has shared £250,000 from the Commerce and Employment Department with four other groups including SeaGuernsey and Good Food Guernsey. But this year that was cut to £225,000 and next year it will drop to £200,000.
