A SHORE-CAUGHT bass weighing 9lb 4oz 1dr proved enough for Stevie Greenway to clinch top spot in the 2011 Quayside Bailiwick Bass Open Challenge.

The St Sampson’s-based 46-year-old fought through the exhaustion of sleep deprivation to catch his fish on a free-lined live sand eel, the bait and method which dominated catches throughout the four-day event.

‘I’m delighted with the win – it’s always a privilege to catch a beautiful fish,’ said Greenway, who got no photo of his catch because he was in such a rush to release it back to the sea alive after weighing.

In the boat section Roger Berry and his uncle Paul Berry experienced some fantastic sport aboard Roger’s boat ‘High Rider’, with 47-year-old, Vazon-based Roger catching the biggest fish of 10lb 7oz 3dr.
