Above-RPI pay deal for Town firefighters
Thursday 28th July 2011, 1:00PM BST.

Town firefighters have been awarded an initial pay increase of 5.67%.
TOWN firefighters have received an inflation-busting pay rise.
The three-year agreement will see their pay rise eventually match that of the airport firefighters, with an initial increase of 5.67%. By contrast, RPIX to the end of June was just 2.6%, down from 2.9% in the previous quarter. The latest RPI figure is 3%.
The new deal means a fully competent Town firefighter on £30,666 at the moment will instead be paid £32,404.
The agreement, which runs until January 2014, follows a 4.5% increase that they were awarded after an industrial tribunal in March.

No they dont, they do it because they like the job and the money.
Just like the rest of us go to work. :)

Not quite the same bcb.
If most people who work over here did’nt go to work, worst that will happen is Mugabe and Gadaffi might have to pay some tax.
If firemen did’nt go to work people would die and possible dammages in the millions.
Why do believe all firemen do it for fun and every other worker does it for money?

Well I am coming to visit your pretty island in a few weeks time. I can only tell you about the fire attnders around Eastleigh, where I live.
I call them fire attenders because that is what they do, on at least 2 occasions in big fires (one factory and one university building) they just sat and watch them burn, they just about managed to spray water on adjacent buildings which where also damaged.
One of the buildings had a fully functioning fire suppresant system installed. the fire attenders refused to turn it resulting in total loss.
So I have very little time for these people. I hope your people are worth the money.

You didn’t reply so I assume you do have connections with the Fire Brigade?
I don’t doubt that they do a great job, but please don’t think think its done for the good of the population, its like the rest of us, for the money–pure & simple! Roofers put there lives at risk every time they climb on to a roof, but don’t go shouting from the rooftops about it! (pun intended!)

I suppose this was only to be expected after the airport firemen successfully held the States to ransom. If they feel their work is unrewarding or too dangerous, why don’t firemen just change jobs? Answer: because they aren’t stupid. The way firemen carry on you would think they are getting killed or injured every other day. Instead of which they are mostly sitting around or having a kip waiting for something to happen. Don’t they generally have enough time and energy left to do second jobs as well? Just try doing that in most jobs.
I hate the way people choose to go into public sector jobs then spend their lives whinging about how grateful the rest of us should be. Everybody works – get over it. Its about time the States learned to stand up to bullies and do the right thing once in a while.

I agree about roofers. It’s the kind of occupation that everyone tends to look up to
