Runway work needed ‘but why has it taken so long?’

AIRPORT work is essential but it has taken too long for the States to make up its mind, nearby residents have said.

The States yesterday appointed Lagan Construction for the £80m. project.

Planning permission is still required and an environmental impact assessment is in progress.

Le Mont Marche Estate residents Mick White and Lesley Pattimore believe they have been kept well informed about the project and do not expect to be bothered by the work.

‘It has to be done, we need it,’ said Mr White. ‘But I think the States have been hanging around too long with it, which is annoying.’
