PLANS to move boat owners out of their Longue Hougue berths to make way for a temporary runway material drop-off point have disappointed one yachtsman.

Welder and fabricator Geoff Brown, 48, said he was sorry to hear the announcement that the entrance to the temporary marina would be blocked off with a pier to allow barges to deliver 350,000 tonnes of aggregate for the two-year project.

‘We always knew moving was on the cards, because of the land reclamation it is disappearing,’ he said.

‘There are about 35 boats here now – it’s been slowly getting less and less.

But we had hoped to get another two or three seasons out of it.’

Well you`ve said it all when you said you knew you would have to move out sometime.

You accepted the conditions when you took on the mooring because it was a cheaper alternative so anyone who accepted and got cheap moorings must now accept it is time to relinquish the mooring for the greater good of the island.

Who knows a few of you may be able to go back afterwards for a few more months until it is infilled completely which after all is the reason the wall was built.

Once it`s infilled you may be able to put a new shed on it for your business so it may not be so bad.

TIME TO INFILL BELEGREVE BAY AND CONSTRUCT A FEW NEW MARINAS IN THERE. GOOD IDEA OR WHAT?

    Well Nocon,
Does the following match your thoughts?

What force or guile could not subdue
    Through many warlike ages
Is brought now by a coward few
    For hireling traitor’s wages
The English steel we could disdain
    Secure in Valour’s station
But English gold has been our bane-
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation.
