THE immediate future of the Town Carnival is secure thanks to record fund-raising this year, organisers have said.

More than £31,000 was raised before the carnival had begun due to three sponsors of acts, the Arts Commission, anonymous donors and hospitality businesses.

Town Centre Partnership executive officer Deputy Jack Honeybill also said that to date approximately £500 per day had been collected through appeals on the street – a figure he called ‘fantastic’.

‘The carnival is enhanced by people putting money in the buckets,’ he said. ‘Collecting from the public has helped us balance the books.’
