Pensioners tell why they are not taking their free bus ride

KIND-HEARTED offspring, distant bus stops and long routes are some of the reasons fewer pensioners are catching the bus.

But many older islanders have praised the service.

The last 12 months has seen a fall of nearly 100,000 people using the bus service – including a 9% reduction in the number of pensioners taking their free ride.

Age Concern vice-chairman Roy Trustum said the decline was a mystery.

‘All they need to do is show their bus pass,’ he said. ‘I can’t understand it.’

    Could also be that the bus shelters have put our elderly folk off, of lot of which are badly sited and built the wrong way round, therefore exposing would be passengers to the elements, not very pleasant on a windy, rainy, cold day.

    It doesn’t help when idiot drivers destroy the bus shelters either. I’m glad granny wasn’t waiting for the last 6N into town!

    I use the bus service whenever i can.as i dont drive .it is a good cheap service .i use my ormer card and the fares are then only 50p .if you go to Jersey the same ride could cost you many pounds .
    so lets be thankful for what we have
    dont knock it as us that don not have to option to drive in have to use it .
