A VALE couple have called for CCTV to be installed in the parish church car park after another arson attack in the area.

An abandoned car was set alight in the car park on Monday shortly after 11pm.

Andy de Lisle and Ali Hamon, whose house is close to the car park, were at home watching television when they heard a couple of loud bangs.

‘We thought a car had hit something,’ said Miss Hamon. ‘Andy went to look and came in shouting about a fire.’

What is this world coming to, I have Family living in Guernsey, I live on the Mainland at present, looking at moving over next year, looking at the situation I am having second thoughts and thinking of keeping my property as a holiday home, not that it is making any money. Guernsey used to be quiet, peaceful and laid back, why, all of a sudden do we hear of vandalism, drug taking, people with too many kids etc., etc. My Family are original Islanders, turning in their graves, what is happening. Do not blame it on Day Trippers, it seems to be Locals, where are the Police, why cant the Island be as it used to be. We could go to bed without locking our doors, no more, someone please tell me WHY!!!

    Hi C.

Well there isnt any deterant, ie, fines, jail etc all too lax for my liking.
The little scroats should be made to pay up and if they havent the money to do so, they loose their property in order to pay for damage. They should also be made up in chain gangs in bright orange overalls and made to work the douits and all the other horrid jobs around that many people give up there own precious time for.
    They have no rights.

G.D. I totally agree with what you say. The world’s “Do-Gooders” have to be thanked for this “soft” approach. Eventually the Donkey’s tail will come back to smack them in the face. Those with the power to change and improve our way of life, are no longer able to, either see the light. or use “Common sense”.

Unfortunately this sort of stuff happens everywhere

Fortunately it doesn’t happen every day in Guernsey and as a registered oldie I can say that I have never been assaulted or had my property vandalised

I suppose a certain amount of unnecessary worry is generated through such stories even in the most mundane of situations

Only a couple of days ago I was in the Northside chippy and the Latvian girl behind the counter said “We’re waiting for chips .. I’m afraid”

Yes Ray, totally agree it is happening everywhere, I will probably be shouted down for this but I still say make them go into the forces as compulsary for a minumum of 3 years, the Greek way is like this with a very small payment of approx £20 per month, it would teach respect if nothing else.
