A CONSULTANT psychiatrist has been accused of having an improper sexual relationship with a patient while working in Guernsey.

Dr Steven Roger Lomax, a consultant in adult psychiatry, goes before a General Medical Council fitness to practice panel hearing on Monday.

The panel will investigate allegations that while practising in Guernsey Dr Lomax:

  • had an improper emotional and sexual relationship with a vulnerable patient.
  • told the woman he had destroyed any medical records he had written about her, and
  • behaved in a way that his conduct was an abuse of his position of trust and likely to bring the medical profession into disrepute.

The hearing in London is scheduled to last two weeks and has the power to strike Dr Lomax off the register, suspend him or impose conditions on his work.
