THE NSPCC is urging people in Guernsey to report any concerns they may have about children during the summer holidays.

Islanders are being asked to be more alert to children at risk of abuse and neglect.

Head of the NSPCC helpline John Cameron said: ‘Children are likely to be out and about more in the holiday, so the public have a vital role to play in protecting children in their local community.

‘They have to live with abuse day in day out and if the only person they can talk to outside of home is their teacher, they may be left to suffer in silence for six long weeks.’

The charity’s helpline received 9,555 calls and emails last August from people in the Channel Islands and across the UK concerned about a child – up by 10% on the average month.
