THE Bailiwick has four newly qualified ABA coaches.
Guernsey trio Ben Duff, Matt Jennings and Amanda Wickenden, along with Nigel Shaw from Alderney, all passed their exams last weekend when Kevin Hay and Steve Gawron, the Western Counties regional coach and advanced coach respectively, visited the Amalgamated club.
‘After two weekends of hard graft, they had to complete their demonstration and an exam paper with 50 questions on,’ said Guernsey head coach Graham Guilbert, who was one of four others to have got through their annual refresher course.
‘Hopefully, I will have a lot more like Matt and Ben coming through and doing coaching after their boxing career.
‘Over the years we have had so many through our doors who put nothing back when they are finished.’
The first event of the Guernsey dinner boxing season will be in November, but before then Guilbert will be taking a team to Poland to box on a card in Warsaw.
