Show season starts with the South

MORE people choosing to bake and grow their own vegetables has resulted in a significant rise in the number of South Show entries, one of its organisers has said.
About 1,500 people have entered the various categories such as vegetables, cakes and preserves – about 300 more than last year.
Brenda Sparkes could not pinpoint an exact reason for the increase, but believed the high quality of last year’s entries had played a part.
‘I think a lot of people came last year, saw the exhibits and decided to have a go themselves,’ she said.
