THE family believed to be the victims of yesterday’s fatal stabbings were described this morning by neighbours as a ‘quiet and private’ family.

One living near the flat in Victoria Crescent, Upper Midvale Road, St Helier, described them as a ‘young Polish family’ with two young, blond-haired and blue-eyed children who would often play outside on trikes and scooters.

Their mother was described as a tall, slim, attractive blonde in her 30s.

The father was said to be of a similar age with mousey brown hair.

Described as a ‘normal’ family who spoke very little English, those who lived nearby said they were friendly and would often exchange greetings in passing.

When this story broke here in the US, I cringed. This is something that happens here more often than it should, but it shouldn’t happen in the Channel Islands. My heart goes out to all who are affected by this tragedy.
