Branagh and Winslet are keen on making Potato Pie movie

Tuesday 16th August 2011, 2:29PM BST.

Kate WinsletFILMING for a multi-million dollar film could begin in Guernsey next April – if the States is able to offer filming incentives.

That is the view of Paula Mazur, producer of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society film.

She visited the island this spring and is keen to make at least some of the film here.

Actor and director Kenneth Branagh is in the final stages of talks to become the project’s director.

Casting will begin when the director is signed on, but Ms Mazur confirmed rumours that Kate Winslet (pictured) was being considered to play central character Juliet Ashton.

Make it happen Guernsey! What an amazing opportunity for the island to show it’s beauty and uniqueness to the world! Don’t let it end up being filmed in the Isle of Man…that would be so sad….

I can see it now -
Scene 1: St Peter Port Harbour
    Branagh: “ACTION!”
    Winslet: “Guernsey…”
(A Kev doughnuts around the North Beach and the Condor Vitesse throbs into shot)
    Branagh: “CUT !”

Scene 2: Somewhere in tranquil Guernsey
    Branagh: “ACTION!”
    (Low rumbling noise, getting louder)
Branagh: “What’s that? Who cued the Panzers?”
Key grip: “It’s those airport infill trucks again Ken”
    Branagh: “CUT !”

This is exciting, but I can’t imagine the States contributing. Might a local potato grower or chip-shop owner recognise an opportunity and offer sponsorship?
(If it influences Ken’s decision, I’ll volunteer my services as an extra, free of charge.)

This could do for Guernsey what Blockhouse did for the Underground Hospital.

Ah, how reassuring… the usual negative response to anything that could be remotely positive for guernsey that isn’t to do with golden age of the 18th Century….well it’s actually 2011 and there are plenty of people (especially those under 50 years) who would love to see the film made here…is film duff trying to suggest that there is no money in the island???!! Come on people it could be amazing :)

What a fabulous opportunity!! I know this is a time of cutbacks and yes, there are other more pressing things financially, but – this would be an extra incentive for tourists to visit the Island!

    Go for it States!!

    Still waiting....

Hang on a minute, they wan’t to start filming next April? How on earth can they expect our States to make a decision in such a short time?

Make it April 2015 and they MAY have a chance of cameras rolling, provided of course it isn’t a case of yes no yes no yes no tilt.

I suppose we’ll get, if we ever get, a film on the same grounds as that atrocious book
    ” A MODEL OCCUPATION”

The truth is never actual in books or films.

It has to make money, and be d… d to the rest.
