Keen photographer Aigars Eglitis took this amazing picture of Nigel Ozanne's Honda-powered racing car flying through the air and breaking-up in the process. The highly-popular driver has been detained in hospital for two nights since to recover from his injuries.

BRUISED, battered and still in a state of shock, Nigel Ozanne has admitted he might call it a day as far as motor racing is concerned.

Ozanne, 45, survived the biggest crash on the Vazon sands in years on Saturday, but spent a second night in the PEH as he recovers from his third smash in the space of a month.

‘I need to talk to myself and decide what I do,’ said the man who has been inundated with dozens of phone calls wishing him well and offering to repair his badly damaged Honda Blackbird 1100 for free.

Admitting he is getting a bit tired of crashes – he hit a tree at 80mph at the Bouley Bay ‘National’ last month and then smashed up the same Mallock sports libre class racing car two days later when aquaplaning on the top straight of Le Val des Terres – Ozanne said he had to give serious thought about continuing in a sport in which he has competed since the age of 18.

    I saw the video of this. He`s a lucky guy. I remember seeing a similar crash st the sandracing many years ago, end of the 70s I think.

    Can I point out that in yesterdays press it was written that the Ambulance & Rescue Service attend each race, its actually St John Ambulance that cover these events who are a seperate voluntary charity organisation.

    But anyway… looks like a nasty crash, I wish Mr Ozanne a speedy recovery

    @Random Chap.
    So that funny-looking vehicle on the slipway with blue lights on the top, the word “Ambulance” on the front, back and sides is provided by “St John Ambulance…a separate voluntary charity organisation”.
    I think you are confusing Autocross (Banger Racing) with Sand Racing.
    For Sand Racing, Hill Climbs, Sprints and Moto-x both the GMC&CC and the GK&MC have to pay for an Ambulance to attend their events (I believe it costs around £120 per hour). This is required by the motor-racing governing bodies for the British Isles, the MSA for cars and the ACU for motorbikes.

    I also wish Nigel all the best.
