Hook, line but no sinker

‘I’ve got another take! Look at it go! Line’s just whistling off the spool!’

My glance over at Rik Le Ray is resigned. This must be his sixth ‘take’ of the evening and he’s simply giving me a battering on the bass.

It’s proving to be a humiliating lesson in how to catch, seeing as my only bite from our last six outings in pursuit of this most prized of sea fish saw my braided line part as I set the hook.

Needless to say, Rik’s line remains in one piece as he tightens up into what’s obviously a better fish.
