HIGH school pupils could be wearing jackets and ties from September 2012, the Education minister has said.
Deputy Carol Steere believed Les Beaucamps High wanted to introduce its new uniform at the same time as students would be moving into the first part of the new build, adding that phasing-in uniforms could be a possibility with the other schools.
‘Their [Les Beaucamps’] head teacher is very keen that the uniform will come in with the move,’ Deputy Steere said. ‘They are working hard to be able to achieve that.
‘We’ve said to high schools we want it as soon as possible. Schools are currently having discussions with suppliers on cost and what the uniforms will look like.

HIGH school pupils could be wearing jackets and ties from September 2012, the Education minister has said.
Deputy Carol Steere (pictured) believed Les Beaucamps High wanted to introduce its new uniform at the same time as students would be moving into the first part of the new build, adding that phasing-in uniforms could be a possibility with the other schools.
‘Each school wants to retain its identity in terms of style, such as colour and whether to have badges – those have yet to be finalised.
‘The board sets the overall policy, but the schools will finalise their look.’
An issue put to Education about the cost of uniforms, which partly prompted the idea of phasing them in, was that students entering their final year would need a new uniform for just three terms.
But Deputy Steere said, as she understood it, Year 11s changed their uniform anyway to reflect their senior status within the schools.
‘These are the kind of issues being considered,’ she said. ‘But if they change for their final year anyway it shouldn’t make too much difference as there will be a similar cost between the new uniform and the one they would have purchased as senior students.’

Suits and ties are not very practical for school kids. Thought we were moving forward in time not backwards. Next step will be bowler hats and briefcases. I am sure they could have come up with a more practical smart uniform than a suit and tie if they feel the need to implement these new rules. Maybe they think by having a suit and tie makes the children look more intelligent. I am pretty sure the time and money spent wasted on these ideas and implementation could be far better spent. Who knows maybe the person responsible for this also has a part in the production or sale of school uniforms? that would make more sense.

Election time is here before September 2012 – with any luck the new Education minister will throw this daft idea out before it has a chance to come in.

I think it is about time the new uniform came in. I am actually quite ashamed to see some of the kids in their uniforms as they are so scruffy. I wish it had been in when I was at school. I have a son at one of the school’s, he is more than happy to wear the uniform and it will look clean, neat and tidy. I actually don’t think it will cost anymore than the old uniform, you have one jacket and a tie, a lot less than several jumpers. If parents can afford mobile phones and the latest gadgets they can afford one jacket and a tie or whatever else is needed, perhaps give up the ciggies or the pub. If your kids feel good in what they wear they will feel better in themselves. Stop moaning and just accept change!

@D
You said it D If your kids feel good in what they wear they will feel better in themselves.
So let’s ask the kids what they feel better in then we can go with that.
