Suharto millions are staying here

THE Guernsey Border Agency’s chief officer has successfully appealed against a judge’s ruling that a Financial Intelligence Service decision was unreasonable.
In June 2009, the FIS refused to consent to instructions by Garnet Investments Ltd relating to a bank account it holds with the Guernsey branch of BNP Paribas.
It followed allegations of corruption on the part of Garnet’s sole beneficiary owner, Hutomo Mandala Putra (pictured)- known as Tommy Suharto.
BNP risked being in breach of Guernsey’s money laundering laws if it released the funds – said to be in the region of 37m. euros – without FIS consent.
