Changes are less taxing for taxman

EXTENDING the deadline for tax returns and imposing an immediate automatic penalty for late one will make the process less administratively intensive, Treasury and Resources has said.
As one of a series of changes proposed by the department, islanders could be given until 30 November to complete tax returns – five months later than the current deadline.
A warning would be sent 30 days before to those who had not yet completed their return about the immediate penalty they face.
The current system requires manual identification of a case by an officer, followed by a referral to a director, who then begins the process of enabling a penalty to be imposed.

It took 6 months for my tax return for last year to be processed, thankfully it was correct.

I suppose that’s one way of satisfying the taxpayer’s complaints at having to wait so long in receiving their tax statement. Why not just say the department is desperately short staffed so you can have an extra 5-months!….doesn’t help the “black hole”….!
