THE first day of BS Guernsey Horse of the Year Show at Chemin Le Roi opened to fine weather and a great display of junior jumping from both the home riders and a strong visiting Jersey contingent.

Single wins were claimed in the nursery classes by local riders Chloe Davison on Faith and Rhiannon Dowinton on Moeltryfan Black Prince. However, the Jersey visitors dominated the 128cm section.

Guernsey combinations fared better in the novice, intermediate and open pony jumping with Kiera Hanley on Little Al, Tegan Martin on Oakbury Molly Sanderson and Georgie Prow on Vellums Dream all walking away with silverware in some hotly contested classes.

The feature event of the afternoon, though, was the first leg of the junior team jumping. The Guernsey squad made up of captain Freddie Best (Gew Trogon), Georgia Renouf (Irish Lethal Weapon), Catherine Gaudion (Attyrory Cushy) and Prow (Vellums Dream) all put in faultless jumping performances to go through clear to the second leg.
