HAVING busted his fair share of criminals, crime-fighting canine Rebel is retiring from Guernsey Police after seven years of service.
The eight-year-old German shepherd, which specialises in tracking offenders and finding missing persons, is to become a family pet.
‘I am going to miss him, I’ve had him seven years and he’s a wonderful dog, very friendly and very good at what he does,’ said handler PC Mark Naftel, who stressed that Rebel was going to live with an experienced dog owner on the island.
‘Police dogs are vital to our work. They do a job humans can’t and when they are needed, they do incredible work with a generally high success rate.’
