A WEEK of intense music training can be as beneficial to students as a year of normal lessons, according to a conductor on the Elizabeth College Summer Orchestral Course.

Nick Care joined the scheme for the first time this year and said he was impressed by the Guernsey students.

‘Their attitude has been absolutely fantabulous because they have concentrated really well for their age. The first day, they were introverted. They are now really performing.’

Mr Care, along with the other course conductors, has rearranged an Arnold Schoenberg piece for one of the bands – originally written for adult musicians. He said it was a mark of how much progress the pupils had made that they were able to perform it to a very high standard.
