THE Guernsey-affiliated HMS Daring visited the island this weekend in an effort to build and strengthen links with the local community.
Around 500 islanders as well as Sea Cadets and Sea Scouts got the chance to visit the Type 45 Destroyer during its three-day trip.
Commanding officer Captain Guy Robinson said the tradition of affiliating ships to places was an important way to raise the Royal Navy’s profile.
‘It is important to get out the message to the public about what the Navy does. We rely on communities to help support us and we do some charity work for them, so it is a two-way street.’
