THE TRAGIC and untimely death of Liga Verse did not negate all that was good in her life, Father John Luff told more than 100 churchgoers at a special memorial service at the Town Church last night.

‘The light of Liga’s life has been suddenly and tragically extinguished. We mustn’t judge a life by the way it ends,’ he said. ‘A tragic end doesn’t negate all that was good in that life. Let us give thanks to God for her life, and commend her to God in death.’

Father Luff was speaking to a congregation that included members of the Latvian community and islanders at the evening ceremony. The body of the Latvian mother-of-one was found in a flat above Noodle Box in the Bordage on Saturday 20 August.

A friend of Miss Verse, who did not want to be named, paid tribute to her.

‘She was a really nice person who was devoted to her family,’ he said.
