Advocate is first islander to swim around Guernsey
Tuesday 30th August 2011, 2:29PM BST.
HISTORY was made yesterday as Adrian Sarchet became what is thought to be the first Guernseyman to swim non-stop around the island.
The 36-year-old advocate (pictued) set off from St Martin’s Point at about 6.30am, swimming anti-clockwise.
To cheers from friends and family, he touched the same rocks 11 hours and 25 minutes later.
He described the 21.1-nautical-mile swim as exhilarating, but it nearly ended in disaster when his support boat broke down close to Pleinmont.

I am angry. I and a group of friends believe we were the first to sail a pair of open boat around Guernsey a long time ago.
Adrian Sarchet’s achievement most certainly betters that.

I remember Adrian from my school days – he was the guy you didn’t want to get in the way of on the rugby field!
Time evidently hasn’t dulled that determination. Well done, sir!

.. and there was me thinking advocates were all brains. Good swim Adrian! (How about making this ordeal a requirement to practise at the Guernsey bar?)
