AN INDIAN restaurant’s efforts to help raise money for the family of Liga Verse gained only a small amount of support last night.

King Balti offered to donate 60% of its takings from yesterday evening to Miss Verse’s family to help with costs following the death of their daughter on Saturday 20 August.

The Verse family had originally looked to have her body repatriated to Latvia, but has now decided to have it cremated in Guernsey before returning her ashes to Latvia.

During a memorial service for Miss Verse on Sunday, the congregation was told how the money raised would now go towards Miss Verse’s funeral in Latvia and her family’s travel costs to Guernsey.

King Balti manager Altaf Ahmed said he expected the restaurant to make a small donation to Miss Verse’s family, but it was not as much as he had hoped for.

Come on Jeff, you can`t be that naive can you?

He picked a Tuesday because it would be his least busy night.(get bums on seats)
He could then use less materials for the maximum exposure in the Press.

It failed to attract customers but not to be done out of his publicity he then had a follow up article in the Press to say how great he was to make the gesture.

I wonder how much he thinks he might have made during a night`s takings for this cause.

Did he offer to make up the difference of the prediction of how much he might have made on a full restaurant?
NO, but he did offer to pass on any donations.

    How generous was that?

It was a publicity stunt that didn`t work and surely I`m not the only one who can see that.

I’m with nocon. It was a publicity stunt that didn’t work AND he had the audacity to go complaining to the Press/people of Guernsey that we didn’t drop everything and run to his restraunt that night and then forever after.

I’m sorry Terry, but I’m with the others on this one.

As nice and as genuine as this offer may well have been, the cynic in me unfortunately believes otherwise. My opinion (and it is only my opinion – to which we are all entitled)has been more strengthened on this one because of the follow up article above.

If the results were really so disappointing then do something about it…..there seems to be a distinct lack of follow-up from King Balti other than a defeatist ‘small donation’ which is ‘not as much as he had hoped for’.
