Shorthand is still desirable and not just for secretaries

SHORTHAND evening class uptake is low, probably because people do not realise how useful it is, a tutor has said.
Associate lecturer at the College of Further Education Anne Setters (pictured) said that shorthand was not often a requirement in jobs, but it was valuable.
‘It is still a desirable skill,’ she said. ‘It is not often asked for as an essential skill but is always very useful in an office or secretarial job.’
Teeline shorthand has been around since the 1970s, following on from Pitman, another shorthand system.
