LETTERS inviting people to participate in a bowel cancer screening pilot were sent out yesterday morning.
As part of the Health and Social Services Department’s initiative, which will run from 7 October until the end of the year, correspondence was sent to people who are registered with a GP and who will turn 60 in the first two months of 2012.
If accepted, they will receive an appointment for a screening in the Princess Elizabeth Hospital day patient unit between October and December.
Leading the team developing the service is public health director Dr Stephen Bridgman.

There is a screening system here in the Uk and i was screened a few months ago with an “abnormal” result. A colonoscopy showed a polyp and this was removed. All totally pain free and took about half an hour. I do understand quite a surpisinglg number of people ignore this oportunity. Do not ignore this chance it is vital to be screened and prevent any problems. Congratulations to Board of Health for introducing this screening.
