ENVIRONMENT members have disregarded planners’ advice and thrown out an application to erect a telecommunications pole in the north of the island yesterday.

At an open planning meeting the majority of the board decided against a recommendation to give Airtel Vodafone permission to put up an 18-metre monopole at Oakleigh Vinery, Landes du Marche, Vale.

It is the first time that politicians have gone against planners’ recommendations since open meetings started in March.

The company said it would improve mobile phone coverage in the area, when its temporary 15-metre pole at Le Coudre, Les Hauts Courtils Lane, Vale, was relocated to a site at Ronez quarry, Les Vardes.
