A COUPLE have been left disappointed after losing a planning appeal to put in a driveway at their St Sampson’s home, even though the tribunal agreed with the plans.

Richard de Garis and Diane Gaudion bought Les Martins two years ago and have been doing up the farmhouse. However, the property has no driveway, although the couple do have the right to park two cars on a neighbour’s land.

After the planning application was refused, the couple appealed the decision in August.

An appeals panel, led by Stuart Fell, said one of the options put forward was viable, but they could not back the couple.

Next April cannot come soon enough. How about you out there? Surely we can find at least 50 or more Electors with common sense, who would be willing to stand.

Its time we revolted against these useless Planners. It is obvious the states will do nothing even though they know there are serious problems with this department. They won’t allow a drive, shed, stone wall, fence, or small businesses to operate but will allow 24 apartments to be built on green land with already congested rural lanes.

“…they could not back the couple”. Oooh no, that would be bringing some common sense to the table and that has no place in a planning system in Guernsey. I’m not surprised! Several years ago I asked for permission to put brick paving in my drive. It was refused due to “…being incongruous with the surrounding area”. Did they look at the local area? I doubt it. I felt the odd one out as all my neighbours had brick paving. Bring on the revolution!
