Five-day mail service would cut Post’s losses by £500k
Saturday 17th September 2011, 2:29PM BST.
THIRTEEN jobs could go if the States agrees to stop Saturday mail deliveries, Guernsey Post’s chief executive has said.
But Boley Smillie (pictured) said the potential £500,000 saving from dropping one day’s deliveries would be a big boost to the drive to make the company break even.
‘Last year, we made a loss of around £900,000,’ he said.
‘We have a plan in place to return to profit over the next 12 months. This action will very much be a help in that process.’

Hi.
I for one would like the Saturday deliveries to stay. If I order something for my business, a part for a pump say, which is urgently required,(more than likely something will break at the last minute) I could order on the Thursday or even Friday and usually it will arrive on the Sat, enabling me to do the necessary for me to get back on track.
For the savings, it hardly seems worth it!
Why is it always the indians get scalped, never the chiefs?
Perhaps they need to look at making savings elsewhere! I mean, these fulfilment companies are going to require their post collected and distributed at the weekends too surely?
Can ‘o worms I say!!!!!!
GD.
