A GUERNSEY comedy duo are on cloud nine today after their show was compared to Monty Python and the League of Gentlemen.

This is Jinsy premiered last night on Sky Atlantic with a star-studded cast.

The show is the work of former Elizabeth College students Justin Chubb and Chris Bran and it has won critical acclaim and endorsement from top comedians such as Harry Hill and Catherine Tate.

An article in The Sunday Times culture section compared the show to some of Britain’s most iconic comedies.

‘The approach of such silliness generally bodes well. There are traces of [Monty] Python, Reeves and Mortimer, the Goons and the [Mighty] Boosh, but it’s the League of Gentlemen’s looming presence that casts the biggest shadow,’ it said.

No comments so far – I wonder if its a case of “if you can’t say anything nice ….” It was a bit too mad for me but I’m pleased to see local boys doing well and that top rate performers are on the show. Perhaps it is destined to become a cult classic.

Oh blimey, I just called them ‘local boys’ – neither of them is a bit black is he? What if they had been “Guernsey girls” – is that sexist as well as racist? I’ll have the police after me…

What is the most hilarious thing about the show is the Guernsey/Jersey/plus other islands allusions. Even funnier is the fact that most UK viewers won`t get it in that respect!
    Congrats Just & Chris.

    Deay This is Jinsy,

What did I think of it?… absolute ‘Tosh-gosh’ as we local Northumberland folk like to say. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m off to this evenings meat draw at The Happy Landings where I’ve been asked to throw a couple of darts with / at a couple of very local farmers – ‘there’s nothing in this game for two in(a)bred’.

    Your sincerely

    Hi Beanjar,
Both girl and lady are regarded as sexist if you are talking about a mature female. The pc term is woman.

    How about Ho?

Can I get away with that? I believe it is colloquial in the ghetto?

I thought the humour was quite brilliant and the songs very catchy.

Can’t stop playing “Licky, licky, licky” that I felt compelled to download. I suspect it will probably shoot up the charts now after my 79p investment and become a cult tune not unlike like “The Lumberjack Song” did for Monty Python.

As a “Donkey” in exile I feel proud when I see talented fellow-islanders doing so well off island.

I saw the pilot show when it was first aired and was really pleased to see it back again.

Loved the songs, especially Licky Licky Licky and the ladies choir. Not too sure about Mrs Gaudion’s dress/wallpaper choice though!

A little bit of madness and bonkers to jolly us along!

Sanguine, I think Ho is a disgusting term to use.

Word on the street is they prefer “piece” or “biatch”.

    Feminist, is “bint” acceptable?

I’m sorry but i find your language most offensive. I think woman should be referred to in a much more gentile way. Might I suggest skank?

    Sanguine,

I think “skank” is a fair compromise. Might I also suggest “Ho-nasty”?

Have to say it didnt really do much for me!

I watched the first 2 episodes and I didnt really laugh once, each to own though my sense of humour is clearly very different.

It was very well done however, and I’m chuffed to see 2 locals doing so well but I probably wont be watching anymore.

Of course there are other ‘nicknames’ such as, Broad; Sheila;Bit of Skirt; Fancy Piece; Dolly;Bit on the side; Her Indoors, to name but a few. What was the old saying? How did it go? “Sticks and stones may break my bones ,but rotten words can’t hurt me”. Again, P.C. gone mad.

Well I`ve just sat through as much as I can of this drivel “This is Jinsy” and to compare it to The Goons or Monty Pythons is absolutely rediculous.
If this is the best local education can turn out into the entertainment world then let`s take the Arts and Entertainment money away and give it to the UK fishing industry.

For God`s sake deny all knowledge of these idiots and never ever associate it with the islands.

Jersey folk must be having a Wheyhey day running this one down.

Can someone tell me if one of these two is a relative of former Deputy Tony Bran? If so then `NUFF SAID.
