EARLY reviews of a Guernsey comedy duo’s Sky Atlantic show suggest it could become a cult classic.

This is Jinsy, written by former Elizabeth College students Justin Chubb and Chris Bran, premiered on Monday night and enjoyed largely favourable reviews from TV critics yesterday – but according to figures from Broadcast Now just 50,000 tuned in for the first episode.

Compared to the likes of Monty Python, League of Gentlemen and the Mighty Boosh, This is Jinsy originally aired as a pilot for BBC 3 last year, although the broadcaster decided not to make it into a series.

It is something the Daily Mirror’s Jane Simon believes the channel will live to regret.

Speaking as a (usually whingeing) license payer, I agree with the BBC’s decision. Leaving aside personal preferences I don’t think an audience of 50,000 justifies the cost of production and paying the likes of David Tennant, Harry Enfield etc. etc. Bills don’t get paid with reviews, even good ones. Unless the figures improve there is no way Sky Atlantic will fork out for another series.

One thing I fail to understand is that in EVERY report, they are referred to as “former Elizabeth College students”, why cant they just be “Guernseys Own” or somesuch other phrase that makes them look like part of the community as a whole.

I dont understand the constant chest beating about everyones favorite pay school.

I’m sure of they were from St Sampsons High, they wouldnt be referred to as such (unless of course they were in court for Robbery)

I disagree, my family and I have only just discovered ‘This is Jinsy’ via Sky Anytime, as we didn’t see advertisement for this series, or heard anything about it, but after having watched 2 episodes now, we are in love with it!

Our ages range from 34 down to 6 and everyone of us think it’s hilarious. It did take a little bit of getting used to at first, because it is so different from the humour around on TV, but I think the Orwell-1984-like theme is brilliant and I think, given a chance, this series will go far. Particularly love the Wood song. Strangely funny.

I’ve heard that Episode 5 is based on a planning office meeting where the civil servants are in a panic because they can’t find a plausible reason to refuse someone who has applied for permission to mow their lawn from East to West instead of North to South

Apparently they try to show that the applicant’s compass is faulty but the woman in the wallpaper dress proves them wrong

There’s a new song ‘Mowy,Mowy,Mowy’which could catch on

Anyway better stop. Mustn’t spoil it for the fans

I don’t like this show much it is really similar to the mighty boosh. I love strange weird things like this is jinsy and mighty boosh. If its not influenced by the mighty boosh it is very similar to it and people should realise it has been done before. The fact its like the mighty boosh in so meany ways is fine, its just people are saying it’s different to any thing you have seen before when its not, it’s a very good form of comedy and people love it (like me!) It looks like someone has made it up as they go along. But I do think this is jinsy is ok but it can do better. I watched it today but I won’t be watching it again I don’t think. It just didn’t do it for me.
