Warwick defies headwinds for the double
Friday 23rd September 2011, 2:29PM BST.

Chris Pommier loses the back end of his Westfield exiting the first bend of the sprint. As his car slid across the track he headed straight towards photographer Andrew Le Poidevin. ‘I thought he was going to come to a stop in the bracken so I continued to take pictures. However, he hit a small mound and became airborne. I ran and he landed in the exact spot that I had been standing in. A bit too close for comfort,’ said the photographer. Driver and photographer were unhurt.
DARREN WARWICK claimed the two outright records for the annual Alderney Hill Climb and Sprint weekend.
Racing in the 1101 to 2000 racing cars class, Warwick registered 23.20sec. in the hill climb to beat Colin Le Maitre’s previous outright record by 0.8sec., and the class record of 23.97.
His 15.89 in the sprint was also enough to beat Mike Dean’s time of 16.03, and the previous class record of 16.56.
Warwick was quite surprised to claim both records because of the weather conditions.
