Hi Laurie, I have been sitting back trying to keep an open mind but I went to the Guernsey game on Saturday and there is no doubt that is was a complete waste of time. The opposition were very poor, so bad in fact that you could not use the term ‘match’ as it was not a ‘match’ but a complete humiliation. I am sure that most Priaulx teams would have beaten Sheerwater and I ended up feeling uncomfortable with the way Guernsey kept battering them. Why didnt Guernsey use the younger, less experienced players so that we could witness a competitive ‘match’? I was annoyed that the Bels vs North game was cancelled on Saturday too. I dont know who made that decision but there were no Bels players involved with Guernsey and only Cochrane, Loaring and Mackay from North. Saints had to play Wanderers with Tardif, Strawbridge, Winch, Heaume, Winch and Black missing, that seems a bit unfair and strange to me. Inter Island football is finished as far as I am concerned. It costs the clubs a fortune to travel either way and is now a total waste of money that could be used better by the individual clubs

I had a dream in which our Green Lions are
unstoppable, thrashing everything before them season after season until finally they reach the dizzy heights of the Npower League 2

Still nothing stops them, stuffing 15,even 20 into the onion bag every game … even away games at the Millers and the Shrimps, and at home to the Bees and the U’s in front of capacity crowds

Onwards into Npower League 1. Still it continues, beating the Cherries and the Saddlers away, thrashing the Shakers and O’s at Footes Lane which has been renamed Three Point Lane

Now for the Championship.Still no problem, averaging 15 goals per game against the Hornets, the Tractor Boys, the Zyderheads and the Eagles

The National Press are taking notice now especially when we play a whole game without a goalkeeper.Even the French Dailies are reporting on our raucous chant of Allez-Allez-Allez-Oui-Oui-Oui to the tune of Oggie,Oggie,Oggie,Oi,Oi,Oi

Next season we’re up with the big boys, the Baggies and the Trotters, the Toon and the Toffees, with the expectation of pressing on into Europe … but before the new season starts it all comes crashing down when Environment rule that football at Footes Lane is not congruous with the permit which was granted only for athletics

It was just a dream I suppose but yet another dream shattered by Environment

It’s a shame to read negativity surrounding the game. Are you suggesting that GFC don’t play its best players for a couple of seasons whilst the team moves up the ladder? What happens to those players’ development during that time?! I can assure you that the GFC players are playing regularly at a standard that is much higher than they are used to, week in, week out. Sure, I would fancy the Saints and North sides of last season to do well in this league, but Saints only really had 4 or 5 games last season when they were really tested (including inter-island games), which was not really any good for any of them. The GFC players are training and playing hard each game, and deserve full credit for that. The local clubs also need time to balance out, particularly the likes of Saints and North that may lose quite a few players to GFC on occasions. This will mean using more juniors on a regular basis, which can only be a good thing for Guernsey football overall.
