Information access plans welcomed

Deputy Matt FallaizeFREEDOM of information campaigners have praised an initial discussion paper that could pave the way for government openness.

The report by Belinda Crowe, a former senior civil servant at the Ministry of Justice, will help form a Policy Council information strategy which is due be debated by the States early next year.

Some of its proposals include publishing information about expenses and salary ranges of key public figures, providing a written account of States meetings, and giving the public access to Scrutiny and other States committee meetings.

Freedom of information supporter Deputy Matt Fallaize (pictured) said the principles of the report were a positive step and should be implemented as soon as possible.
