Attempt to smuggle cannabis like film from 1970s – judge
Wednesday 28th September 2011, 2:30PM BST.

The boat used by Christopher King to bring the drugs from the UK to a pre-arranged drop-off point off the Platte Fougere lighthouse.
A DRUGS smuggling operation which a judge said was reminiscent of a 1970s film, but with a degree of sophistication to it, ended with two men being given lengthy jail terms yesterday.
The comparison was made by Judge Russell Finch in the Royal Court as he sentenced Steven Mourant, 30, and Christopher King, 60.
Both were jailed for four years for their parts in the attempted importation of 3.27 kilos of cannabis resin, worth up to £98,000 on the street.
Mourant had four months added to his sentence for other drugs offences.

I am no drug fan my self but it makes me laugh how you can name and shame this kind of crime but you cant pedos what is the world coming to.

Must say that I’m struggling to see how 4 years is a “lengthy” jail sentence? A good 10 years each would have been a much better deterrent.
Dave! 10 years is a bit harsh it wasnt exactly murder or rape and plus it was only a class B drug. They know they have done wrong.

I agree with Local….in my opinion if you destroy the Human Rights of a child then you deserve to be destroyed yourself, named, shamed and maybe put in a room full of Mothers armed with blunt instruments!
However….if you keep the masses drugged up and sedated then you can get away with anything.. like letting Education slip, fiddling your expenses, letting Paedo’s off with Helium (very light) sentences and just generally milking the system for what it’s got.
Now don’t forget to buy your Taxable, Government endorsed Tobacco and Alcohol drugs on the way back from your minimum wage job. And when others are staggering around, causing hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of vandalism damage (which you have to pay for through higher insurance policies and increased Police funding) OR causing violence to yourself and your family (through drunkenness and disorder) – just make sure you don’t step out in front of some States of Guernsey Bigwigs Mercedes.
You may just end up in Hospital that YOU have to pay for out of your own pocket……

I think 4 years is a fair sentence. It was a class B drug not class A.

I also agree with Local, you can name and shame a drugs related incident but then you cant name and shame a Peadophile!!!
Well said Blow-in Boy :)

I think four years is pretty decent. I bet they were expecting more. A year per kilo is damn fair in all honesty. They will serve two years and eight months with good behaviour.
Maybe Paul Le Page can do a few church services on a Sunday. If he gets them preaching in tongues the stretch will soon fly by.

Paedophiles are named and shamed. The photographers wait for them outside the court building. They catch them going in or coming out. Many have been papped recently. I fail to see the point people are trying to make here?

Local
One year and 4 months if they get parole I think

IMO the sentencing for the smuggling was correct…it is a Class B (not like it was 4 Kilos of Coke) drug and thus a lighter sentencing should be enforced. This is one sentence I think is fair and just. But to go a bit O/T about sentencing (although pertinent to this thread considering what has also been talked about) I thought you should read ANOTHER entry on the Guernsey Press site re:Paedophiles >
“HOME minister Geoff Mahy said yesterday that the department was committed to pursuing tough sentencing for those found guilty of possessing indecent images of children.
A recent judgement by the Guernsey Court of Appeal, which saw Mark Gunter’s sentence for possessing indecent images reduced from 15 months to three, said it was time that the island formally adopted the sentencing guidelines used by England. Guernsey typically refers to the Oliver guidelines used in England but adds a level of deterrent on top.
Deputy Mahy (pictured) said the department had considered the wider implications of the decision. ‘Taking a mature approach, it has accepted that the right of appeal is a fundamental part of our justice process. That said, I would like to reassure you that the department is committed to pursuing a tough sentencing stance for such crimes.’ ”
Now since WHEN is an initial 15 month sentence a “tough” approach to a crime as despicable as this? and THEN commuting it down to THREE !!! I mean what the hell? You get a longer sentence for not paying parking tickets!
