Thursday 29th September 2011, 2:29PM BST.

Guernsey Chief of Police Patrick Rice
CRIME dropped by 13% last year, according to the latest Guernsey Police figures.
The largest fall came in domestic burglaries, with 40% fewer being reported in 2010.
However, half of the crimes reported last year are still outstanding.
There were 2,572 reported incidents in 2010, compared with 2,954 in 2009.
Of those 1,713 – or 31% – cases are still outstanding. That rate stood at 28% for 2009.
The most common offences were criminal damage and arson, with 708 being reported.

Crime down eh? Conversely could it not be that the public have such little faith in the local Police Service and their crime detection capabilities that this is simply a case of them no longer reporting all crimes now?
Or have I just become very cynical?

It’s October 2011 in a couple of days. Why does it always take so long to gather the annual figures in this computer age
Is it because the local Police have to wait to be told by the UK Government how they want to record and count various crime categories in this particular year.It tends to change on a yearly basis depending on what the UK is trying to prove to its voting fodder

Makes sence seeing as our prison is nearly full. Another box ticked.

The Police force in Guernsey cherry pick and as was said before dont actually think for themselves they follow the UK as in some of the cases bought up by the media. I know 100% that a person died under unusual circumstances and the three people involved were never interviewed, even though the police said that a crime had been committed very strange could all be for statistics!
What about the law, the job, just do it, sod the stats. As was said by a former officer, “they are only interested in soft policing”

Figures Falla,
Well, assuming GPress have reported this correctly (ahem), Guernsey Police are recording a detection rate of 69% which is phenomenally high. GP – is this what you meant or by out-standing do you mean something else?
