HEATHER WATSON’S performance in the Aegon GB Pro-Series event in Shrewsbury has earned her a career high world ranking of 87.

The Guernsey star made it all the way to the final of last week’s $75,000 tournament but was eventually blown away 6-0, 6-3 by top seed Mona Barthel of Germany.

Watson is now ahead of schedule with regards to her aims, as she hoped to be back in the top 100 by the end of the year.

She posted on Twitter after the final that she was disappointed but had experienced a good week overall.

‘[It] Wasn’t a good day at the office,’ she also wrote. ‘Definitely ready for a few days of rest and then back to the gym and practice.’

Next on the calendar for Watson is the $220,000 Generali Ladies tournament in Linz, Austria.

The competition runs from 10-16 October and was won last year by former world number one Ana Ivanovic.
