John PayneTHE Guernsey Gaels senior men’s team did well to reach the final in the first of three rounds of the European Gaelic Football Championship, played in Brussels.

Round two is in Guernsey on 8 October with the final round in Ireland in early November.

The team qualified for the Championship finals having won the French and Channel Islands Championships in May and June, and they maintained their momentum in Belgium.

Victories over Stockholm and reigning European Champions The Hague saw the Gaels qualify for the semi-finals where they were to play old rivals Jersey Irish.

The current squad is by far and away the best the club has assembled and club chairman John Payne (pictured) feels they have every chance of making their European dream a reality.
