MARTYN OGIER’S attempt to break the world windsurfing speed record has received a boost.

Aurigny have stepped in with support for the Sarnian windsurfer, which will allow him to travel to the UK regularly.

‘They will fly to Manchester at the last minute for record attempts which will mean I can fly up there, hire a car and drive the 40 minutes down to West Kirby, sail while there is light and fly back either that day or the next morning. Without their support it wouldn’t be possible to go on a regular basis,’ he said.

‘At the moment I am tuning up my larger speedsailing equipment ready for the British Speed Sailing Championships in Weymouth starting this Saturday.

‘The long weather forecast is for light to moderate winds, so no records will be broken but it should still be good competition.

‘In the past I have been second and third, but with the progress I have made over the last two years and the equipment changes made to complement my size and sailing style I am going in more positive than ever.’
