There’s only one Risk

PROMINENT local musicians have thrown their support behind Guernsey-based band The Risk as it seeks legal advice against an X Factor band of the same name.
The reaction comes after Talkback Thames, producers of the Simon Cowell-created television talent contest, refused to comment when approached for a response by the Guernsey Press.
Mark Le Gallez (pictured), bassist for the three-piece power-pop group, is pursuing the case after one of the show’s mentors and judges, Tulisa Contostavlos, formed a band for the live show also called The Risk.
He is claiming against that group on the grounds that they have taken advantage of, and caused damage to, the goodwill created in the name of The Risk – known in law as ‘passing off’.
Formed in 1984, The Risk have toured Europe and the USA, are signed to a label, have released five albums and have a big following.

,,,yeah go for it Mark…the fact that they refused to enter any dialogue shows an absolute arrogance and that is, in its self, worth puncturing.

If u enter a search on facebook there are quite a few bands with the same name, although prob not as good as our local boys! :-) Do they have their name registered officialy? (If their is such a register). Or maybe slap a copyright on it?

Mark, Make sure you get an expert music lawyer from London on your side….not a local Advocate that has no idea of the way these things work. Talkback Thames not only have a lot of money, but have some of the best lawyers in the business on their side.
Good luck
