A DISAPPOINTED Kris Bichard has had to pull out of the Atlantic bowls championships, which are scheduled to get under way in the unusual setting of the Athena Beach Hotel in picturesque Paphos on Monday.

Bichard was unwell when he returned from Stanley in County Durham last week, after managing the Channel Islands team in the British under-18 indoor championships, and is resting on doctor’s orders.

His place in the Guernsey men’s team will be taken by Keith de la Mare, who will be in Cyprus in his role as manager – and the reshuffle turns the Sarnian team into something of a family affair.

Keith’s son, Dan, was already in the side, and will now partner his dad in the pairs as well as setting out his stall in the singles.
