We couldn’t Risk suing X Factor, says bassist
Saturday 15th October 2011, 2:29PM BST.
A LEGAL pursuit by The Risk against X Factor programme makers for using the Guernsey-based band’s name, would be a total waste of resources, its bassist has said.
Mark Le Gallez (pictured) said the legal costs involved in pursuing the prime-time programme could prove extortionate – but the band was not giving up.
The Risk signed a contract with a record label yesterday morning.
That will see their second LP, called An Invitation to the Blues, which was originally recorded in 1987 and produced by Tim Bran, re-mastered and re-released as a CD.

Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
The fact that Mark’s band has a history stretching back as far as 1987 must go in their favor, along with the album. Rather than pay exorbitant legal fees, how about applying to trademark the name? I think it’s a couple of hundred pounds per category, but could be worth it. If the X Factor band opposed it, Mark has proof that they were in existence long before them.

All those rushing out in their droves to buy the new album should be sure they are selecting the right one then.

Still think they should register the name (trademark/copy write it), before the x factor does otherwise they may find x factor will beat them to it and ironicaly slap a lawsuit on our local boys to stop them using the name. Protect the name guys before it’s too late!

I watched X Factor on Saturday night and The Risk aren’t that great and don’t stand out from the others so their chances of winning are slim anyway. They’ll fade into obscurity soon enough!
