‘Police told her to calm down but it did no good’

CLOSE neighbours of the Les Genats house at the centre of yesterday’s standoff watched as officers fearing for the safety of a mother and child surrounded the area.
Kieran Kelly watched from an upstairs window as police surrounded the property.
‘They had a negotiator and were trying to tell her [the mother] to calm down and come out, but it didn’t really help,’ he said.
Neighbour Sharon Dodd recalled hearing shouting from the property in the afternoon but did not think anything of it at first.
