SEPTEMBER saw just four entries in the Fish of the Month competition – two each from boat and shore – starting with Trevor Ferbrache who entered a huge bass of 14lb 8oz 3dr, a fish most anglers can only dream about.

Ferbrache was returning to port after a good day’s fishing when he decided to stop off and try a mark on the east coast. His fish was judged against the 18lb 6oz 12dr record and scored him 78.77% and won him a case of beer.

The other boat entry came from Richard Le Prevost who landed a new British record Couch’s sea bream of 9lb 4oz 5dr while he was fishing with his son off the west coast. This fish easily beats the current record of 6lb 9oz 7dr and scored him 140.66%, which was enough to win the boat tankard plus a Shakespeare prize.

The first shore entry came from Shane Huxster with a bull huss of 10lb 11oz 9dr caught while he was fishing in the first round of the Specimen Hunt. The fish was judged against the 13lb 14oz existing record and scored him 77.28%, winning him a case of beer.

Finally, a ballan wrasse of 7lb 9oz 11dr was entered by Andy Le Lerre while fishing on a north coast mark. It was up against the record of 8lb 10oz 13dr and scored him 87.66% which was enough for him to win the Shore Tankard.
