‘Put The Risk in top 10 and win X Factor argument’
Monday 24th October 2011, 2:29PM BST.
SUPPORTERS of local music plan to back The Risk by buying their single in an attempt to push it into the charts.
It is hoped that if Good Times, which is available for download on iTunes and Amazon, does well enough, it will end an argument with the Simon Cowell-created television talent show The X Factor, which has formed a band of the same name, that no other bands with the title are commercial enough to claim rights to the name.
Speaking at yesterday’s song writing workshop at Blanchelande College, Tom Girard (pictured), producer of BBC Introducing Guernsey, a radio show that focuses on local music, said it was only right that the local band, which was formed in 1984, held the biggest claim to the name.
‘They’ve been doing great stuff for local music for more than two decades. They are still active and are re-releasing material,’ he said.
‘The responses I’ve seen from X Factor seem to be very dismissive of all other acts.’
