ALICE LOVERIDGE beat two of the host country’s top under-21 players but fell foul of the rules at the Swedish Open in Stockholm.
Guernsey’s young Olympic hopeful was disqualified for the thickness of her bat after beating one of two top Swedes in her qualifying group at the under-21 event.
Under normal circumstances she would have qualified for the last 32 of the singles for beating Ida Soderlund and Josefin Lung, but her bat failed examination for being too thick and her result against Lund was reversed.
Loveridge, who lost her other group game against a Polish player, also went out in the first round of the women’s singles, losing to a top Korean in straight sets.
