Mixed response to suggestion of a pedestrianised Le Pollet
Tuesday 25th October 2011, 2:29PM BST.
COMPLETELY closing Le Pollet to cars would be a nightmare for Cook, the shop’s owner said yesterday.
Nigel Lough (pictured) said if the road was pedestrianised, his delivery men would be unable to get through without an allocated time slot.
‘If it was blocked off, it would be a nightmare.
‘I can’t see what the benefit would be – it’s not prime high street. I wouldn’t have thought there is enough footfall to justify it.’
The Environment Department made the suggestion among the multiple options it has put forward to improve the island’s transport system.

Good Afternoon,
I salute you Nigel Lough however, eLough is eLough. Regeneration is key here. I’d like to see Le Pollet closed off or maybe even scaled back – completely. A multi-storey car park would be a far better use of this prime piece of real estate and would make shopping in the real part of town much easier. I’m sure a car park would be much welcomed by all of our cherished finance workers, who have limited options when it comes to parking on this island.
Who’s with me on this one? I look forward to reading your messages of support later.
Good day.
Godfrey

I would suggest a totally pedestrianised area between 10am – 4pm and 8pm – 7am Monday to Sunday, with access permitted for delivery vehicles permitted at all other times. I would further suggest a widening of the access entrance to the Weighbridge Taxi Rank to allow two way traffic for taxi movement. Obviously if I was a member of the states I would consult the wider population prior, and if these options were not popular with the majority of the consulted individuals then I would say no. But these are the proposals I would put forward.

Another silly suggestion from Environment. Thought for a long time part of the Church Square should be closed to traffic. Access for delivery would not be affected. Taxi rank by Church could possibly remain and possibly a disabled parking area. This would at least reduce the traffic through there.

I agree with Mark, and I imagine Mr. Lough does too. He’s only objecting to “COMPLETELY closing Le Pollet” and citing problems if it was “blocked off”. Pretty reasonable.

Get real Cook owner
Of course deliveries would be allowed between certain times (probably early)
You are not the only business there ~~~ or are you?
All your deliveries are by car?
Really?
