Beaches
There are not many beaches along the rocky east coast, which features the island’s two commercial harbours. However, there is one popular tourist beach, Fermain, which is situated just south of St Peter Port. Fermain is a quiet bay surrounded by cliffs, it is mostly covered in pebbles and there is only sand when the tide is very low. There is no car park and the only way down is a steep and twisty hill. At the bottom of the hill there is a small tearoom and restaurant. Like many of the south coast beaches, Fermain is surrounded by cliff paths that lead on to viewpoints looking out over St Peter Port in one direction and the pine forest in the other.
There are other small beaches along the east coast, like Bordeaux, north of St Sampson’s Harbour, which is ideal for fishing, but not so nice for swimming, sitting and sunbathing.
